Ingrowing toenails are a common, often a painful foot health issue.  Ingrown toenails can affect anyone, there are many causes such as a trauma to the nail, ill fitting footwear, incorrect nails cutting or wider nail plates along with a variety of other factors.

Ingrowing toenails most commonly but not exclusively affect the big toe.  They occur when the nail grows around the side of the toe.  This can be due to a a variety of causes such as trauma, ill fitting footwear, picking of nails or nails being cut incorrectly or even just due to the nail shape.

The ingrowing nail can cause Pain, inflammation and if left untreated it can in some cases cause a serious infection.

What can I do If I think I have an Ingrowing toenail?

Book an appointment with our Cardiff podiatrist at our Podiatry clinic on Fairwater green Cardiff. Louise will assess the nail and advise on what treatment would be best for you. All your options would be discussed along with risks benefits and most importantly, aftercare.

Don’t panic or worry, not all ingrowing toenails need surgery. If you catch an ingrowing toenail early it is possible that we would be able to non-surgically trim the nail back without too much trouble.

You will leave your appointment feeling much more comfortable.

Louise Fordham our Cardiff Podiatrist will also discuss with you how to look after your nails to try and reduce the risk of this issue reoccurring during your appointment.

In some cases where this non surgical option is not possible or the problem is re-occuring we may recommend nail surgery.
